Director of The Bay Area Blues Society Ronnie Stewart, Blues Guitarist Alvon Johnson, Music Photographer George Livingston, and Musician Donald Johnson are on our Q&A panel for the blues based movie “Redemption Road”, directed by Mario Van Peebles”. Playing at Oakland City Hall for Black History Month, Friday, February 24th at 6pm. Moderated by KCSM and KPFA’a Greg Bridges. FREE!

The ultra-hot band Soul Mechanix will be returning to grace us with their talented presence and smooth soul sounds before today’s screening of “Everyday Sunshine”. Performance will begin at 5:45…here is some info on the band:

Soul Mechanix blends groove-based jazz improv and progressive funk
drawing from a diverse universe of influences. Featuring Ruthie Price
on drums, Weldon Hall on bass and Graal Swartz on guitar, Soul
Mechanix was born from a fire to create something funky and
unpredictable. Originals and covers are thrown down without pause.
There’s usually some special guests at our live shows so hope to see

J. Kevin Swain And “Soul Train: The Hippest Trip In America”

Added “Soul Train: The Hippest Trip In America” to Friday the 17th’s film series. Thanks to friend and director J. Kevin Swain, who worked with Don Cornelius on many projects, as well as directing “Being Bobby Brown”. We are showing this film in memory of Don Cornelius–it will be shown after “Everyday Sunshine”.
